    Customer Reviews:
    not the best,of course,
but a basic product that performs a few basic functions laboriously-but still a good buy,at that price…

Dubbing Rarely Works So Don’t Waste Your Money
I bought this unit with the intention of dubbing some of my VHS and Hi-8 tapes to DVD and have never reliably able to do it with the D-VR600. I think I have wasted a couple dozen DVDs and only successfully dubbed anything several times. I get the cryptic, undocumented message “Can’t record. TV system of input video has changed.” When I emailed Toshiba for an explanation I received none, but instead was told to unplug the unit for about a minute so the system could reset. Needless to say that did not work.

I read in another review that Toshiba said this problem was due to a noisy signal from the tape. But I have had the problem whether dubbing the tapes or recording them from external VCRs, including commercial S-VHS and Hi-8 VCRs. At the same time, using a Canopus ADVC-300 analog to digital converter I am able to load every tape into a computer without it ever dropping a frame. I think the problem is the D-VR600 has a crappy analog to digital converter. (Why do do reviews nowadays only tell about the features that appliances have and not how well they work?)

In summary, the D-VR600 was a complete waste of money for recording DVDs. (I was very disappointed, because I have an old Toshiba DVD player that works great.) The bottom line is that I will never buy another Toshiba product (although I am sure other consumer electronic companies are just as bad). And unfortunately in the future I will have to fork over the extra money to buy commercial grade equipment even when it comes to performing simple, routine tasks like recording a DVD.

Also, I cannot recommend the Canopus analog to digital converters highly enough. I have tried many analog to digital converters and have always had problems with them dropping frames. But after hundreds of hours of use, my ADVC-300 has yet to drop any frames. And you can adjust the picture too. It’s great.

Does what it’s supposed to do
This product is great for being able to view AND record on video or dvd and serves the purpose for which I bought it - to accompany my new 37″ Toshiba Flat screen for movie viewing, and also to record shows that I might not have time to watch in real-time for later viewing. The only thing that is a little frustrating is that the response time from remote to machine is delayed. Also - even if you push the buttons on the unit itself, it doesn’t respond quickly. You have to wait for a few seconds for it to do what you tell it, so just make sure you don’t press the buttons a whole bunch of times if it’s not reacting fast enough - and learn how to be patient with it…..

    disappointed
the software for this machine is poorly designed. The user guide is disorganized and probably written by a person whose primary language is not English; and worst of all the recording feature did not work.

I gave it to a neighbor who has too much free time in order to avoid the inconvenience of taking it to the land fill.

    The negative reviews are correct!
Unfortunately, the negative reviews turned out to be correct. I just bought it and I am returning it! It’s awful. I then went out and bought a Sony and it is SO much better! It does whatever you program it to do — there are no “failures” like the Toshiba had. What a pleasure.

    Customer Reviews:
    Reasonable card, not-so-reasonable drivers.
    Reasonable hardware, not-so-reasonable drivers.

Just so it is all clear, this is a ATSC receiving card, which is the US way of spelling DVB, losing some features in the process.

Also, this is a BUDGET card (as used in DVB’s jargon), which stands for, no video/audio decompression is performed on the card itself. All goes to the CPU. This, however, is the way Windows Media Center likes cards to be.

Finally, this card has no CI, pardon, CableCard slot. This does mean that you will not be able to receive value-added (conditional access) channels not even if you request your cable/sat company for a CA module.

This card performs to satisfaction in Windows Media Center (tried Vista, not XP), even with all its drivers problems (see below), so it is a good bet for that.

Drivers are BDA but of very poor quality! Apart from the card’s own software and MCE, all other BDA-aware software I tried crashed on start, even DirectX SDK sample/test application! If you try it using SDK’s GraphEdit, you’ll also notice that a graph cannot be stopped and restarted - it has to be torn down and recreated, otherwise Aver filters will also crash.

Works right out of the box.
The card was very easy to install. Integrates nicely with MCE 2005.

    Gets great HDTV reception
I had a HDTV and wanted a way to record the PBS shows that were only on the HD channels. I did some research on cards. I decided on this card for price and because the media center PC I bought came with AverMedia’s analog TV card.

This card picks up the digital signals better than my Samsung TV (using the same antenna).

I could not get Windows XP MCE 2005 to work with it. When I went to a digital channel MediaCenter would hang. I am now using BeyondTV. That worked without any changes to the PC (except disabling MediaCenter).

Lives up to other reiews I have read
The card installed without problems. The HD reception is very good. The signal strength supplied by an indoor antenna placed in the Attic bring in many channels with a strong signal. I am 38 miles from the towers and still get good reception. The interface to the MCE operating system was straight forward. The only problem I have is a video error on one channel when recording HD in MCE. Avermedia Support has been very helpful in trying to determine if this is their problem or the MCE. The error only occurs on the ABC HD channel and is still outstanding as of Jan. 22, 2007.

    Good Product
Product works as expected, delivery was good. Used the software you can download from Avermedia, and that didn’t work for beans, but I mainly got it for Media Center, so it wasn’t an issue. Just wanted to try it out.

    iPod nano
From vinyl to 8-track to reel-to-reel, to cassettes, cd’s and now this. Days of music at my disposal, anywhere, anytime. I love technology!

    Excellent little player
My only complaint is the gigantic box shipped with the ipod.

The ipod was smaller than i expected, much smaller than the new 4th gen. sound and video playback are excellent. i have it connected to my car stereo and it sounds excellecnt even at full volume. the included headphones suck though. Very nice player i would recommend that you get one, if you can find one lol

    good sounds
I purchased the Apple iPOD NANO 4GB 3RD GENERATION ON 08/17/08

I AM SEVENTY YEARS OLD AND DON’T CARE FOR NEW GADGETS BUT THIS iPOD WAS EASY TO SET UP AND I HAVE DOWN LOADED SONGS FROM MY CD’S AND PURCHASED SONGS ON LINE AND DOWN LOADED THEM. I REALLY ENJOY THE iPOD. THE SOUND IS VERY GOOD AND IT IS EASY TO CARRY AROUND.

Wh could complain? This is the best ipod by far.
i really don’t understand all the negative 1 star reviews? This is the best and most lightwieght music player to date. it is perfect for working out or travel and these people writing 1 star reviews have issues. I recommend it to anyone who works out or wants a way to always have their music with them in a portable format - and at 8GB it stores a lot - same as the good iphone.

Won’t play all your audio files!
Unlike other MP3 players out there, this ipod (and all others) won’t play protected WMA media, which is a lot of media out there.

If you want to play ALL your music or audiobooks, get a Zen or other non-Apple media player. They may not be as stylish and trendy, but they work better and they will cost you less cash.

Great TV for a great price
For under $300 I have nothing but good things to say about this TV. It supports all of the video outputs that I have. Both my 360 (component) and PS3 (HDMI) games look great on it, and so does “I am Legend” on Blu-ray. The size is perfect for my room and easy to move. All in all, great TV.

    Customer Reviews:
    Great Soundbar for the Price
The form factor of this sound bar is great - fantastic design. It nests perfectly under my Samsung 245BW LCD. The volume/mute knob is large. The lines are sleek.

I use a laptop and docking station, and this sound bar is the perfect solution for great sound.

The reviews that said this sound bar will “fill the whole room” are exaggerated in my opinion. For the price, this is great sound, and plenty loud. But it certainly won’t “fill the room”. I also use it for movies in the bedroom, and the monitor and sound bar sit 12 feet away and it is loud enough. But don’t mistake this soundbar for a high end, high power unit you would use for home theater - it can’t produce really clear loud sound like those units.

In short - it is great quality for the price and I am very happy with the purchase.

    Awesome acoustic power…really low price!
I bought this sound bar, not because I needed a speaker for my flatscreen monitor (i’m a gamer and can’t afford the flatscreen monitor that is superior to my crt’s). I got it so I can play my iRiver 8gb iRiver clix2 without headphones! This thing hasn’t disappointed me one bit. The sound is deep and resonant. The highs are crisp and clear. The volume gets very loud and its very portable! I can use my clix2 when I’m building a deck or playing frisbee with my dog. I connect it to my laptop, which is where i have all my mp3’s and my main computer is free for interstellar piracy while I play Eve online. An inexpensive, terrific sounding solution to all MP3 player owners who need great sound, affordability, and portability.

    Good Speakers
Good sound for relatively inexpensive computer speakers. Certainly wouldn’t recommend it for “serious” listening ( but that’s what my Dahlquist DQ-10’s and Bose Acoustimass 15 speakers are for ). The soundbar is really good on the high and mid-range. If you’re looking for strong bass, these speakers aren’t for you.

I’m using it with an HP W2207 monitor. If you place the soundbar where the instructions suggest ( under the base ), the monitor was unstable. But, if the monitor is at its highest level, you can slip the soundbar under the monitor behind the base. It then looks like it’s part of the monitor. The combo on/off/volume/mute control and the headphone and aux jacks are still easy to access in this position. The only thing I don’t like about the soundbar is that the power adapter is rather wide. If you plug it into a power strip or ups, it’s apt to block off adjoining plugs.

Since it probably is important in evaluating my review, I was totally happy for a number of years with the built-in speakers in a Philips Brilliance 180P2 monitor. I only found it necessary to get external speakers when I got the HP monitor - its built-in speakers are really tinny. I am using the soundbar on a desktop pc. My main source of digital entertainment is a home theater pc.

Not enough power but has rich sound
The soundbar does not have enough power but delivers enough power to produce rich vibrant sound through out the room. If you do not have 3-4 inches underneath your monitor then this will not fit, but if you have enough space like i do then the speaker will look fine in front of the monitor not only does this product have aesthetic appeal but the blue light when you turn the speaker on is not annoying when turned on. If you turn the volume on max there will be some distortion since I did hear some crackle when I did put it on max.

However, if you don’t do major gaming and hate to turn the audio all the way up then this is the perfect speaker to get. I do some gaming but I really do not listen all the way up so this speaker was perfect for me. However if you want loud bass and have the room for it get the logitech Z2300 but some people did complain about the midrange so ultimately its your choice.

Altec Lansing, you did it again!
This is a great speaker. First of all, it’s the greatest soundbar in its category, because of an innovative design and clean sound. It also safes a lot of space in your desk and it avoids you a messy work area since it only uses two cables for power and audio. The installation is very easy, but in case you need them, it comes with precise instructions very easy to go thru. Mine took me more time to unpack the speaker than to put it to work :o) The sound is good and clear, not excellent as my Altec Lansing VS2221, but is a lot greater than many dual-speaker systems. It includes an Aux port located at the right side, very useful if you have an MP3 player. The mute function with the press of the front dial couldn’t be better. I gave it 4 stars because I would like the Aux port to be located at the front of the speaker, making it more accesible and also because I would prefer the volume/mute dial to feel more robust and accurate. If you are looking for a non-conventional/decorative speaker design, with respectable sound to listen to your music while you are at work or home, without having a bunch of cables running at the top of your desk, then this is the speaker for you.
